Truck Recommendation

When it comes to trucks, the most reliable, as you noted, is the older generation Toyota Tacomas (through 2006).

Tundras are larger, but are less reliable, and the V8's in Tundra really suck the gas. The Tundra limited I had averaged 12mpg.

For full size trucks, Fords and Chevy can both be reliable.

The contractor who worked on our home, had a Ford F150 with 270,000 miles on it, without any major problems. It used it daily to haul all his tools and a trailer.

My brother has a 2006 Chevy Silverado pickup and it too has been very reliable. Surprisingly, it gets pretty good fuel mileage as well.

My current motorhome is a Roadtrek on a Chevy 2500 truck platform, and I have been pleasantly surprised at how well it runs and handles. Even with the weight of the motorhome, its 6.0 litre V8 gets 14.5 in town and 17mpg on the highway.

If you can find a 2000 or newer Ford or Chevy pickup that hasn't been used as a work truck, and has a V8, you can have a pretty reliable vehicle.

Avoid 6 cylinders, diesels and all Dodges.
